1. Export scale continues to rise
From 2021 to 2023, China's annual export volume of pesticides reached 1.57 million tons, accounting for 85% of domestic production; In 2024, the export volume increased by 32% year-on-year, exceeding 2.05 million tons, and the proportion of production increased to a record high. Herbicide is still the main export, accounting for more than 70%, mainly to Brazil, the United States and other agricultural countries. According to the production capacity and export capacity of the important pesticide production areas in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and Shanghai, the Shanghai Customs region undertakes 75% of the country's pesticide export business, indicating that the regional concentration of pesticide production and trade is significant.
2. International trade is resilient
The global supply chain was disrupted during the epidemic, but China's pesticide exports remained resilient by adjusting product mix and exploring emerging markets. In 2021-2022, the international market demand will surge, and the export price will increase by 56%. Although the price has fallen to the level of ten years ago after 2023, the continuous growth of export volume indicates that China's pesticide enterprises still have a strong market share grabbing ability through capacity optimization and cost control.
3. There is an emerging trend of industrial upgrading
The proportion of original drug exports decreased by 10 percentage points in ten years, and the export of preparations gradually increased, reflecting the efforts of domestic enterprises to extend the industrial chain and increase the added value. At the same time, a number of enterprises that can develop innovative products with independent intellectual property rights, such as Syngenta, Qingyuan Nongguan, Nantong Taihe, Qingdao Hailier, Shandong Xianda, Zhejiang Yulong, have gradually distributed to domestic and international markets, and the technical reserves of green pesticides and biopesticides have continued to break through.
